FPN President David Biemesderfer Appointed to Florida Chamber Foundation Caucus

(Winter Park, FL - July 9, 2010)  The Florida Chamber Foundation recently appointed David Biemesderfer, President and CEO of Florida Philanthropic Network, to its expanded research and policy development Caucus system designed to garner the input of subject matter experts from across the state.  Biemesderfer will be serving on the Quality of Life & Quality Places Caucus, a group that will provide long-term and visionary policy recommendations to the Florida Chamber on quality of life issues in Florida.

"Florida is moving toward its next economy and the Foundation's new Caucus system will prove to be an invaluable framework to help us get there," said Jeff Lyash, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation and Executive Vice President of Corporate Development for Progress Energy Florida.  "I would like to personally thank the volunteers who have been selected to serve on each Caucus for their time commitment and offering their invaluable expertise towards this great cause."

"I am honored to be selected to participate with others across the state on the Quality of Life & Quality Places Caucus," said Biemesderfer. "I look forward to serving the Florida Chamber Foundation and sharing ideas and information that will lead to the improvement of Florida's future."

Members of the Quality of Life Caucus Steering Committee include leaders from several FPN member organizations: Teri Hansen, President/CEO, Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice; David Odahowski, President and CEO, Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation; and Susan Towler, Executive Director of Community Affairs, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, and Vice President, The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida.

The Florida Chamber describes each Caucus as a work group that will weigh opportunities and provide strategic recommendations and input on corresponding policy issues facing Florida. Dr. Dale Brill, President of the Florida Chamber Foundation said, "The options and recommendations that come from the Caucuses will be shared with the Florida Chamber of Commerce and other partners for further deliberation and the groups will prioritize policies for Florida's economic agenda."

The Florida Chamber Foundation was developed to be a problem solving research organization, working in partnership with state business leaders to promote a vibrant Florida economy. The Foundation’s platform includes a Caucus of six critical areas defined through years of collaboration and research. The six caucuses are: 1) Talent Supply & Education, 2) Innovation & Economic Development, 3) Infrastructure & Growth Leadership, 4) Business Climate & Competiveness, 5) Civic & Governance Systems and 6) Quality of Life & Quality Places.
