Organizations in all sectors are
engaged in serious efforts to help protect the environment by "going
green," and grantmakers are no exception, as more and more
foundations and other funders are exploring new ways to make their
organizations greener. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of
Earth Day, this FPN webinar will feature several Florida foundations
sharing their experiences in making their organizations more
environmentally friendly and helping nonprofits do the same - from
small operational changes to major initiatives. You'll also
hear from Ted Hart, president and CEO of GreenNonprofits, who will
share practical tips and advice from his recently published
"Nonprofit Guide to Going Green."
Daryl Houston will
describe the
Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties' efforts
over the past two years to actively improve the environmental
sustainability of its own operations and encourage nonprofits in
Palm Beach and Martin Counties to do the same. Internally, the
foundation has saved thousands of dollars while helping the
environment through energy retrofits and other energy conservation
measures, recycling, and reductions in paper and printing costs.
The foundation has also helped nonprofits go green through its
Environmental Endowment Fund and an annual Nonprofits Going Green
Contest, among other efforts. The Community Foundation was the
first nonprofit to be certified by GreenNonprofits.org, the new gold
standard for nonprofits seeking to "go green" while making a
difference.
To offer a different "going green" funding
perspective, Greg Luberecki will explain how the
Gulf Coast Community
Foundation of Venice has used capital grants to help nonprofits
construct new buildings that adhere to green building practices, as
a way to help these organizations reduce their building operating
costs over the long term. He'll also talk about some operating
grants the foundation has made over the past year that have included
green elements.
In the webinar you'll also get firsthand
guidance from Ted Hart of
GreenNonprofits on some key proactive steps that foundations and
other nonprofits can take to protect the environment while
fulfilling their missions. He'll also share some key issues
for funders to consider as they look for ways to help their grantees
go green.
