With the Florida Legislature’s 2009 session completed and Congress about to enter its August break period, please join Florida Philanthropic Network for a mid-year update of 2009 state and federal legislative activity of interest to the grantmaking field.
Lester Abberger, who serves as FPN’s Government Relations Consultant in Tallahassee, will offer his overall assessment of Florida’s 2009 legislative session. He will describe any new legislation passed by the Legislature this year that might impact foundations and nonprofits, as well as successful efforts to prevent the passage of legislation that would have been harmful to the field. Abberger will also give an overview of his work on behalf of Florida Philanthropic Network over the past six months to help strengthen relationships between government and philanthropy in the state.
On the federal level, the Council on Foundations’ Luis Maldonado will update us on the progress being made in Washington on several key issues of interest to grantmakers, including the flat foundation excise tax and the IRA charitable rollover provision. He’ll also give an update on the Edward M. Kennedy Serve Act. President Obama signed the bill into law in April, but Congress still needs to make the appropriations.
This teleconference will be an ideal opportunity to get the most up-to-date information on legislative issues that can impact our field, learn more about FPN’s latest efforts to advocate for the field, and to get your questions answered.
