Travel Philanthropy: Getting the Most Out of "In-the-Field" Experiences to Learn and Serve

April 8, 2010
Noon - 1:30 pm ET

Who Should Attend: Boards and staffs of family foundations and others who work with families on their philanthropy.  This FPN-NCFP teleconference is open to the staffs and boards of FPN member organizations.
Cost: No charge.
To Register: Register Online
Presenters: Bruce Karmazin, Executive Director of the Lumpkin Family Foundation and Maryann Fernandez, Founder and President of Philanthropy Indaba.

National and international trips to view development work first-hand can have a major impact on a family's giving.  "In-the-Field" experiences provide families the opportunity to learn about the work of current and prospective grantees and understand the cultural, economic and political factors that impact the success of a program.  On this teleconference, you will learn the ins and outs of organizing such trips, including how to select a destination, deciding whether to work with a trip organizer, and finding service opportunities for family members of all ages. The speakers will be Bruce Karmazin, Executive Director of the Lumpkin Family Foundation, who traveled to Uganda last summer with his 15-year-old son, and Maryann Fernandez, Founder and President of Philanthropy Indaba, a family consultant with experience planning global trips.

You cannot do a kindness too soon, because you never know how soon it will be too late.
