Disaster Philanthropy Playbook

Florida Philanthropic Network, a member of the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers, in association with Center for Disaster Philanthropy have launched a new resource that will transform the way philanthropy responds to disasters. The Disaster Philanthropy Playbook is now available to all those who seek to help communities prepare for, withstand, and recover from major disasters. The Playbook includes a compilation of philanthropic strategies, best practices, and lessons learned that have saved and galvanized local economies, nonprofits, and vulnerable populations from entering into a permanent downward spiral in the wake of a disaster.

FPN Webinar: The Florida ALICE Report & How Philanthropy Can Take Action

This February 2015 FPN member webinar presented key findings from the 2014 United Way ALICE Report for Florida including the increase in the basic cost of living, the decrease in the availability of jobs that can support household necessities, and the shortage of housing that the majority of the state's jobs can afford. During the webinar the presenters shared how the data is being used by United Ways across Florida since the report's release in November 2014, and how FPN members can use the data to further philanthropic work in Florida.

When senators return to Washington next week after their August recess, they have an opportunity to help charitable organizations with their critical work in communities. By passing the America Gives More Act (H.R. 4719), the Senate can help grow philanthropy at a time when the charitable sector is being asked to do more to help those in need.
