Florida Philanthropic Network | Statewide Summit on Philanthropy
    February 3-5, 2021 - Virtual Summit

We will miss the opportunity to see you in Orlando, but we will nevertheless bring you excellent content you’ve come to expect, and the opportunities to connect, build your network, exchange knowledge, and recharge.

The idea of resiliency in our work is not new, but has taken on new importance. Grantmakers work with grantees to ensure that they are resilient; funding with the goal of allowing partners to be flexible, but to be successful with their mission through challenges both large and small.

We now find ourselves at a crossroads where the idea of returning to the structures of our work after adversity will not suffice.  To best support our partners, we must reimagine not what that return to form will look like, but the vision of the new ways in which we will operate. What are the new tools, resources and modalities that we will need to provide an equitable, sustainable version of philanthropy that better serves Florida and its citizens?

Florida Philanthropic Network is Florida’s only philanthropic leadership organization serving Florida grantmakers exclusively and serves as the voice of the sector. Through FPN, nearly 700 foundation leaders and grantmaking professionals are connected to explore foundation-specific issues, improve practices and address policy issues. Our FPN members work alongside business, government and nonprofit sectors to promote the best interest of Floridians and build philanthropy for a better Florida.

As we work to navigate what is now not so new a reality, the best tool we available to make informed decisions about our response to COVID-19 and its impact on our communities is accurate data.

Florida Philanthropic Network (FPN) and the Florida Nonprofit Alliance (FNA) invite you to join us as we host a discussion with Dr. Glenn Morris, Director of the Emerging Pathogen Institute at the University of Florida, who will lead us through current COVID-19 data and trends in our state. As the vaccine rollout continues to move ahead, Dr. Morris will be able to share information from various counties on vaccination rates and how we might be able to improve processes going forward. We will also review new recommendations on mitigation strategies and how we can best communicate to our constituents so they can also make the most informed decisions.

    About the Speaker

    J. Glenn Morris, Jr.,  Director, EPI; Professor of Medicine
    University of Florida

Dr.  Morris became the director of the Emerging Pathogen Institute in August 2007. He was recruited from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where he was a professor and chairman of the department of epidemiology and preventive medicine in the university's school of medicine, as well as an interim dean of the school of public health. In addition to his position as EPI director, Dr. Morris is a professor of infectious diseases in the UF College of Medicine.

Morris has worked in public health and pathogen related fields for more than 30 years, and has had a continuing fascination with emerging pathogens. At EPI, Morris has helped to shape the creative vision behind a web of campus-wide projects to anticipate, understand and control the emergence of new, disease-causing microorganisms.

Morris received his B.A. from Rice University in 1973, and both his M.D. and a master’s degree in public health and tropical medicine from Tulane University in 1977. He is board certified in both internal medicine and infectious diseases.
