Today we launch “FACEing Mental Illness: The Art of Acceptance,” a collaborative art project aimed at reaching every member of our community. Its goal is to eliminate bias against anyone with a mental health condition; its method is to encourage individuals with mental health challenges to step forward and creatively share their stories with a caring, compassionate community.
Valerie's House for Grieving Families has expanded to a satellite location in Cape Coral. The expansion is being funded by a grant from the Cape Coral Community Foundation.
Barnabas’s Women’s Health Initiative Nassau, or WHIN, program is designed for women in crisis in Nassau County. Funded by a $110,000 grant from the Jacksonville-based Women’s Giving Alliance, the mental-health program began in January and has helped 85 women since, according to Barnabas.
The alliance, an initiative of The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, was “delighted to partner with Barnabas to provide critical mental health services in Nassau County,” said Jan Healy, grants leadership team co-chairwoman.
The Friends of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Brevard will host a spectacular James Bond Themed Gala event – Casino Royale – on Saturday, Oct. 8, to benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center of Brevard. The Children’s Advocacy Center of Brevard, a program of the Space Coast Health Foundation, is nationally accredited and follows a successful national model that is being replicated around the United States.
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation and Robert Rauschenberg Foundation announced that ten local nonprofits will receive $250,000 through their granting partnership. Grants ranging from $8,000 to $50,000 were awarded to: ACT (Abuse Counseling & Treatment, Inc.), Boys & Girls Club, Children’s Home Society, Community Cooperative Ministries, F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva, Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida, Harry Chapin Food Bank, Human Trafficking Awareness Partnerships (HTAP), St. Matthew’s House, and Valerie’s House.
Single mothers will receive free parenting education and mental health services, thanks in part to a $12,500 grant from the Edward K. Roberts Fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.

Today, in its inaugural grant announcement, Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg awarded $4 million to community groups working to improve public health. The 19 recipients included the Pinellas County school district, the St. Petersburg Free Clinic, Mount Zion Human Services and the USF Research Foundation.
CEO Randy Russell said he was "delighted, honored and privileged" to engage the foundation's new "grant-funded partners."
"Transformation is not only possible," he said. "It's imminent."
