FPN is a statewide membership association representing over 100 private-independent, community, corporate and family foundations, as well as public charity grantmakers and corporate giving programs. From Jacksonville to Miami and Naples to Pensacola, these members work to improve the quality of life for Florida citizens. FPN members share a love for Florida, an understanding and commitment to promoting philanthropy, while fostering collaboration and advancing public policy in Florida.

Florida Philanthropic Network (FPN) successfully plays the role of connector, educator, researcher, and advocate for its members. Our membership, along with strategic partnerships with key regional and national groups and funders, provides opportunity to positively impact issues vital to the citizens of Florida. Key Responsibilities

In partnership with the Board of Directors, the President and CEO is responsible for the overall successful operation and performance of FPN. All activities of the organization are carried out under the leadership and direction of the President and CEO, who executes on strategy and operations management while pursuing the mission, vision, strategy, and financial success of the organization. The President and CEO manages an annual budget of approximately $1.1 million, a small professional staff, and a variety of professional consultants.

Examples of key responsibilities:

  • Partners with the Board of Directors to align the organization’s strategy with its vision, mission, and goals.
  • Cultivates a diverse network of relationships with partners and thought leaders, and constantly enhances expertise by maintaining deep knowledge of the issues, opportunities and challenges facing Florida’s philanthropic and nonprofit sectors.
  • Develops and manages an effective membership strategy to retain existing members and recruit new ones.
  • Positions FPN as a leader in local and national philanthropic policies, education, networking, and research conversations and initiatives.
  • Represents FPN’s mission and outcomes to the broader community, media, public and private sectors, and civic leadership in a strong and appropriate light; ensures that FPN is recognized throughout Florida.
  • Leads the planning, management, and implementation of FPN’s public policy and government relations work.
  • Provides leadership to the planning, development and implementation of programs and support to meet member needs for development, networking, and research.
  • Provides leadership to the solicitation, management and reporting of all grants, sponsorships, and underwriting support.
  • Ensures board materials and official records are properly and accurately produced and maintained.
  • Directs and manages day to day human resources and fiscal/financial management activities in a manner that supports the strategic mission and complies with policies, laws, standards, and regulations.

Key Experience and Leadership Attributes

The successful executive will be a strong, principled leader who will bring vision and high energy to the organization and its work; and, will be a proven coalition builder, experienced at working at multiple levels to get work done through motivation, inspiration, and leadership. For example:

  • Established experience providing entrepreneurial vision and strategic leadership; translating that vision into concrete actions to advance the mission.
  • Proven networking ability, exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills; a coalition builder with ability to engage at all levels of philanthropy.
  • Strong knowledge of the nonprofit and philanthropy sectors, with experience in association management.
  • Proven experience in successful resource development and strong fiscal management, budgeting, and operations in the nonprofit sector or related field.
  • Well-developed written and oral communications skills and style, including listening and messaging.
  • Progressive professional experience with leadership and management responsibility, preferably in the philanthropic, membership or nonprofit environment.
  • Experience supporting a board of directors in its governance role, fostering its ongoing development, and keeping it informed about internal conditions and external developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide vision and think strategically and creatively.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the public, private and nonprofit sectors in Florida.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Compensation / Location

The President and CEO is a professional, full-time, exempt position. FPN provides a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.

FPN’s members and strategic alliances are primarily located throughout Florida; the President and CEO may travel frequently, at least 50% of the time, in order to build networks and expand FPN’s impact. While the current location of FPN’s home office is in Tampa, FL, as FPN begins to transition to additional virtual activity, the primary office of this position might be located, geographically, most anywhere within the state of Florida.
