Knight grant pushes planning efforts for Frenchtown history

April 10, 2018

A $50,000 Knight Foundation grant will jump start planning efforts to create permanent historical markers in Frenchtown, one of the state's oldest primarily black neighborhood.

The Community Foundation of North Florida notified the Riley House Museum that its "Souls To Lead The Way" application was awarded a one-year grant. Grant coordinators want to replace worn Frenchtown street banners on Macomb Street with historical markers, possibly similar to the ones that line Cascades Park.
