The Coral Gables Community Foundation recently awarded nearly $80,000 in college scholarships to 16 high school seniors. The Foundation, their donors and the scholarship recipients celebrated at the annual Scholarship Reception hosted jointly with the City of Coral Gables on Thursday, April 26 at the museum.
Health Foundation of South Florida announced the election of Bob Dickinson to its Board of Directors. The board leads the largest philanthropy dedicated to improving health in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.
In Sarasota County, 52% of babies are born into low-income families who often lack stable housing, food, health insurance and other resources needed for a child's development. On April 25, 32 organizations led by the Charles and Margery Barancik Foundation launched the First 1,000 Days Sarasota County campaign, which will seek ways to support low-income families during their babies’ most critical period of development.
Since 2012, donors throughout our region have shown their love for local nonprofit organizations by providing more than $28 million in unrestricted funding through the Giving Challenge, a 24-hour regional day of giving presented by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Huge thanks and gratitude are owed to The Patterson Foundation, which has incentivized donors to give over the past six years with more than $11 million in matching funds.
The Able Trust recently released the results of its statewide annual Jeannie Amendola Speech & Research Competition.

The 24 hours beginning at noon Tuesday could be the richest day for nonprofit organizations in the history of Southwest Florida. More money will be changing hands during that time frame, and it’s all to benefit charitable causes.
But the idea behind the Giving Challenge, supported locally by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, the Manatee Community Foundation and The Patterson Foundation, is to offer even small givers a chance to get in on the act.
