The Erica Lewis, Esq. Soccer Scholarship Fund, a fund of The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, is a community scholarship developed in loving memory of Erica Lewis, a former Orange Park resident. It will be awarded to Orange Park High School female athletes, once the $50,000 goal has been met. It expects to hit that mark, based on current giving trends in March 2018.

Players by the Sea raises $25000 with 'Curtain Call'

Community theater group Players by the Sea raised more than $25,000 at its fundraiser, “The Curtain Call,” on Oct. 7.

The event also honored Players by the Sea supporters, volunteers and performers.

Friday Third Editorial: LGBT adults invited to take survey

The survey is being funded by the LGBT Community Fund for Northeast Florida, an initiative of The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. The survey is being conducted by The Williams Institute at UCLA.

Women's Giving Alliance begins campaign to help women, girls escape poverty

The Jacksonville-based Women’s Giving Alliance kicked off its new five-year focus on breaking the cycle of female poverty by awarding $450,000 in grants to Northeast Florida nonprofits.

Founded in 2002, the alliance is a group of 400 women who pool their philanthropic giving under the auspices of The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. Each member contributes $1,500 annually to participate in collective grant making — $5.45 million to date — as well as building an endowment.

Non-Profit News: AmeriCorps members boost agencies

Jacksonville welcomed 10 new AmeriCorps members who will support the agency’s community redevelopment initiatives through work with partner agencies. AmeriCorps participants receive training, stipends and benefits during their terms of service as well as education awards to use after they’ve completed their service.

LGBT Community Fund Awards More than $150,000 to Six Local Nonprofit Agencies

The LGBT Community Fund for Northeast Florida voted to award a record $158,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations at its annual meeting this week—continuing its mission to invest in organizations that benefit Northeast Florida’s LGBT residents. An initiative of The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, the LGBT Community Fund was created in 2014, and has made a total of nearly $475,000 in grants since inception.

More than $2 million raised for Florida First Coast Relief Fund

Jacksonville’s business and philanthropic community has pledged more than $2 million to help with recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. The money will go to Florida's First Coast Relief Fund, established in 2016 in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan announced Tuesday he was giving $1 million to the fund. The Jessie Ball duPont Fund has donated $500,000 and the Mayo Clinic is giving $250,000. The hospital is donating an additional $500,000 for other Irma relief efforts.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Inc., also known as Florida Blue, also is supporting statewide recovery efforts with a $1 million donation. Of that, $100,000 will go to the fund. Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase, Baptist Health, The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida and the United Way of Northeast Florida also made contributions totaling $300,000.

Arts Notes: Art Ventures initiative awards $28000 to eight local artists

Philanthropist Delores Barr Weaver gave Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville a $1 million grant to fund a new eight-unit affordable housing development in the New Town neighborhood. 

The gift from the Delores Barr Weaver Fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida celebrates the eight decades of Weaver’s life, according to HabiJax. She has lived in Jacksonville since 1993, when she and husband Wayne Weaver moved here as the first owners of the Jaguars.

Sulzbacher Village to offer safe housing for homeless women and children in Jacksonville
