Building Philanthropy to Build a Better Florida

2019 Statewide Summit on Philanthropy

Save the Date! February 13-15, 2019

The FPN team and Summit Planning Committee gathered in March to begin planning FPN's 11th Annual Statewide Summit on Philanthropy, to be held at the Disney Yacht Club Resort in Central Florida, February 13-15, 2019.

2019 Statewide Summit on Philanthropy

In an era of hashtag philanthropy, we are reminded that our work must reflect the society in which we want to live. The pace of change is as varied as the neighborhoods we live in, but it starts with a spark – an idea, an action, a connection – when our mission and values intersect with our communities.

Funders spark change like no other sector can; you are independent, nimble, innovative and purpose-driven. Throughout history, these sparks have fueled collaboration, leadership and inclusion as grantmakers work toward informed and equitable change in a field that by, definition, practices love of humanity.

Find your spark at the 2019 Florida Philanthropic Network Statewide Summit on Philanthropy, February 13 – 15, 2019, at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

  • Explore philanthropic strategies and responses to the movements emerging around us.
  • Distinguish between metrics, outcomes and meaningful impact.
  • Discover how funders are practicing collective leadership and collaboration that goes beyond checkbooks.

Be our date next Valentine's Day as #2019FPN Summit returns to Central Florida at Disney's Yacht Club Resort at Walt Disney World!

In January 2018, Wick Poetry Center lead Florida grantmakers through an activity celebrating diversity through the intimate and inclusive voice of poetry. Here's our #2018FPN community poem, pieced together from dozens of attendees' personal driven statements read by FPN members and volunteer leaders Dr. Steven Marcus, Patty Maddox, Randy Russell, Daniel Gibson and Jennifer Kryshka.

Climate Resilience and Environmental Justice in Florida Communities

Publication date:
01/2018

Session resources from #2018FPN Driven, FPN's 10th Annual Statewide Summit on Philanthropy.

The existential threats to people and the environment from climate change are increasingly well understood. NOAA’s 27th annual State of the Climate report revealed record-setting climate change indicators in 2016, resulting in extreme global events including late-season Hurricane Matthew, which devastated parts of Northeast Florida. In addition to more active hurricane seasons, climate change indicators – such as extreme heat, severe drought and vector-born disease such as Zika – carry systemic implications for Florida’s marginalized communities. Experts shared why climate justice, community-based change initiatives and integrating climate resilience and equity into your grantmaking portfolio deserves philanthropic attention, as well as important ways philanthropy can support and amplify this work.

Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery that occurs in every state and Florida is no exception. Its impact is felt across Florida communities and populations from the Keys to the panhandles and everywhere in between. Using the most recent available data, learn how this issue impacts our state followed by a discussion about how as funders we can collaborate to work on an issue that is currently not resonating with the grantmaking community. Through brainstorming exercises focusing on the Collective Impact model, we will work to come up with ways that we can bring the issue of Human Trafficking out of the shadows and begin to engage in community conversations.
