Hurricane Ian: Responding to a catastrophic storm

  • Tuesday, October 04, 2022
  • 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
  • Webinar

After sweeping through Cuba, Hurricane Ian hit Florida as a high Category 4 storm. Reminiscent in strength & location of 2004’s Hurricane Charley, which caused $17 billion in damages, Ian’s impact will be even more significant. After crossing Florida, Ian is expected to hit South Carolina & Georgia.

Philanthropy Southeast is hosting a webinar in partnership with the Center for Disaster Philanthropy and Florida Philanthropic Network to help foundation, corporate and individual donors learn about the storm, the impact of the devastating wind and flooding and how they can help affected communities.

The Philanthropy Southeast staff and guest experts will discuss how to support those affected by the storm, particularly elderly and immigrant communities in highly populated areas.

At the end of the webinar, you will:
• Have an overview of the flooding and damage from Hurricane Ian.
• Understand how to best support community organizations working on the ground.
• Learn about the unique needs of different populations in disaster recovery.

The session will be moderated by Janine Lee, President & CEO of Philanthropy Southeast, and speakers will include:
• Sally Ray, Director of Domestic Funds, Center for Disaster Philanthropy
• Marcus Coleman, Director, DHS Center for Faith-Based & Neighborhood Partnerships
• Roxie Jerde, President and CEO, Community Foundation of Sarasota County

The program is free but registration is required in order to receive the login information.
