Featured Speaker

Dr. Abbey Tyrna

Executive Director of Suncoast Waterkeeper

Dr. Abbey Tyrna, Executive Director of Suncoast Waterkeeper, is a scientist and community leader with deep expertise in wetlands and water resources. With a Ph.D. in geography and years of experience in conservation and public engagement, Abbey has dedicated her career to protecting Florida’s waters for future generations. Under her leadership, Suncoast Waterkeeper protects and enhances the bays, rivers, and coastal ecosystems on the Suncoast through science, education, advocacy, and, when necessary, legal action—giving the community a powerful voice for clean water.

Suncoast Waterkeeper is part of Waterkeepers Florida, a coalition of 15 Waterkeeper organizations protecting more than 50,000 square miles of watersheds across the state. Together, the groups leverage local expertise and grassroots passion to achieve statewide impact, ensuring that Florida’s waters remain fishable, swimmable, and drinkable.  To meet the moment, Waterkeepers Florida has a strategic plan to tackle some of the most pressing environmental problems by defending against harmful policy rollbacks while promoting proactive solutions for water supply and quantity, wastewater management, wetland conservation, resilience, and public health.
